"this broadcast realtime captioned by becky lyon." good evening, i'm matt jablow in tonight for bruce johnson. thank you for joining us. we are tracking somebody ear weather this evening. severe thunderstorms rolling through the dc area right now. anny joining us from the weather center. how long is the weather with us and what does it mean for tomorrow's big holiday? >> we are expecting this to be around the rest of the night. severe thunderstorm watch in effect until midnight. here is a look at one of our tower cameras. it is pouring. water all over our lens here. in fact, you can hear the thunder rumbling outside our studios here. let's take a look at this severe thunderstorm watch and warning. right now live doppler 9000 shows us that we have got

basically storms around the dc area. we have several in the dc area. let's zoom into show you what some of the storms are doing and where they are at. some holding hail just north of dc, south of silver spring where you see the purple color. that is where there is hail. damaging wind gusts as a possibility and some locally heavy rain which could lead to flash flooding. here are some of the areas that will be impacted. take a look. just in a couple minutes here. mt. pleasant. columbia heights. parkview. 6:32. out to the west some more storms heating out this way and you can see these storms are going to probably produce quite the punch here. let's zoom on in here to around leesburg, front royal.

you heading down to the mall on our website wusa9.com. to florida now where lawyers are wrapping up their closing arguments in the casey anthony. the fate of the accused will soon be in the hands of the jury. >> reporter: casey anthony to bed as the prosecution hammered ohm its theory that she killed the 2-year-old caylee because she did not want to be a mom. >> she chose to sacrifice her child to live the life she wanted. >> reporter: the prosecution's closing arguments detailed for the jury how the 25-year-old lied and partied with her new boyfriend for a month following caylee's death. the state argued the duct tape found on caylee's skull prove it was premeditated murder. >> we can only hope that the chloroform was used before the tape was applied so that caylee

went peacefully. >> reporter: the defense was dealt a huge blow when the judge ruled they couldn't mention that anthony was ever molested because it hadn't been proven. the alleged abuse had been -- been an explanation for her bizarre behavior. >> reporter: the defense attorney admitted his client is extremely flawed but argued the prosecution had no -- had not proved its case. >> i don't think anybody can justify their actions but they do not constitute murder. >> reporter: he pointed the finger at casey anthony's dad and suggested he covered up an accidental drowning but the attorney's emotions ran so high. >> this laughing guy right here. >> reporter: the judge stopped the court and said stop the insults or you will be held in contempt. the jury will begin deliberating on monday. >> if anthony is found guilty of first-degree murder she will get life in prison and could

face the death penalty. in other news tonight a man is beaten to death at his gaithersburg home. police say 28-year-old justin carter and an acquaintance began fighting on a back deck at a family gathering. it happened just before 11 p.m. last night. carter was taken to the hospital where he later died. a 24-year-old is now charged with second-degree murder. this weekend is one of the busiest boating time. it is a time when the coastguard beefs up patrols and it is a good time for boaters to review safety rules. >> a boat like this is capable of doing just about 50 miles an hour. >> reporter: a boating pro for sure. driving these puppies since he was 16. >> this marina wasn't here. >> reporter: when he bought the boat at the marina he was happy

to take the courses offered. >> a maintenance class. and one is to go underneath the bridge they require you to have a coastguard license. >> we will not sell a boat. >> reporter: owning the marina saying the water demo is designed specifically for this area. >> a lot of it is known in the water here there are dangerous parts in the water and you have to really read charts and maps to know where the rocks are and branches sticking up. >> reporter: but on weekends like the 4th of july a greater danger is alcohol. it ised leading contributing factor in recreational boat fatalities. most of the deaths are drownings and most of the victims are not wearing life jackets. >> i have 11 life preservers. there is a fire extinguisher system. >> reporter: items the coastguard will check. >> last week they had police doing sobriety checks stopping each boat coming this way.

britain's favorite royal couple continue their north american tour today. prince william and his bride spent the night on a canadian warship from montreal to quebec this morning joining sailors for a sunday morning church service. their nine-day canadian tour includes seven cities and four provinces and one territory. the royals head to california on july 8th. anny hong is joining us now. awfully busy day. >> a lot of severe thunderstorm warnings in effect for dc,

montgomery. until 7:45 p.m. tonight. the severe thunderstorm watch in effect until midnight for the entire area but where you see darker yellow that's the severe thunderstorm warnings. let me list what areas are being impacted right now. we have got the district of columbia severe thunderstorm warning until 7:45 p.m. maryland until 7:45 p.m. calvert county until 7:45 p.m. montgomery county. prince george's. arlington also. until 7:45 p.m. also, let's put this out farther. loudounn. prince william. shenandoah. 7:45 p.m. tonight. i'll zoom into some of the cells. locally heavy rain which could

produce some damaging and dangerous flash flooding and also some hail associated with some of these storms generally heading to the southwest where right now you can see just south of national forest and morningside are seeing severe storms going through and so looks like these storms will continue to the next hour or so. all right. let's take a look at the current temperatures where right now it is pretty humid out there. and it has been warning up to the 90s earlier but right now 72 in downtown. 88 for manassas. 79 in leesburg. 86 degrees for andrews air force base. the dew points. you did feel it today. into that mid-60s right now but 70s in gaithersburg, 70 in winchester. couple days ago they were in the 40s and 50s. so a stormy sunday today. severe thunderstorm watch until midnight. downpours leading to dangerous flash flooding threats. damaging wind and hail. july 4th chance for isolated thunderstorm. what this model thinks will happen. 8 p.m.

still some showers going through. some thunderstorms as well. by 11 p.m. a lot of it should be done so i think by then it will be much quieter. tomorrow morning, mostly cloudy conditions to start the day. i think for the most part not as stormy though. the threat here to the south of us may be some showers. again, chance for some isolated storms tomorrow afternoon and evening but they will be isolated in nature and so i think for the fireworks for the most part things are looking pretty good but a slight chance you may see a bit of wet weather. showers and thunderstorm. some heavy or severe. lows tonight around downtown near mid-70s. a warm night for some folks out there. okay. so let's take a look at our forecast for tomorrow morning. partly to mostly sunny and mile. temperatures in the 70s in the afternoon. partly to mostly sunny. warm and human. isolated storm is possible. okay, here is your seven-day outlook. still in the lower 90s for tuesday. a chance for some showers and thunderstorms as well as you're heading back to work.

under new skipper johnson friday night. made up a rain out then turned right back around to play game number 4. nats wrapping up their series with the pirates and, well, let's say the competitive portion was over early. nats down 2-0. make it 3-0. lyle overbay with a hit to center. pirates just getting started. 5-0 pittsburgh in the 2nd. double to center. scores garrett jones. nats get blasted 10-2. for at least one guy though it is a happy day. before the game reliever tyler clifford was told he was the only national to be selected to the all-star team. clifford who came from the yankees in '07 has a . 196 e.r.a. matt wieters gets his first all- star nod. before the wimbledon men's finals began today there was a

new number 1 in the world taking over the top spot from rafael nadal just for making it to the finals. on the court though his speed and precision helped him beat the defending champ and win his first grand slam title at the all-england club. nadal taking on someone other than roger federer. first set, off to a good start with a strong forehand. he goes up two sets to none and was in control. third set though. nadal trying to get back on the match. he scores the easy forehand winner here and on set point. novak just too strong. he wins his first wimbledon. at&t national. will be back here next year. k.j. choi trying to make a move. he misses the bogey putt here at 15 drops back two shots.
